We do have standard gear available at the retreat free of charge however if you're a serious fisho bring some of your own gear. Solomons Islands is located in the "coral triangle" and contains some the highest marine biodiversity in the world.
We are geared up to offer all types of fishing, bottom and reef fishing, trolling, popping and jigging and there some great river fishing in the area. In the short time we've been there we have landed, sail fish, shark, sweet lip, coral trout and cod, job fish, king fish, Trevally, Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, mangrove jacks, mackerel, barracuda, wrasse and some big snapper. Please come over and add to the list.
You can fish from the main beach in front of Papatura with Trevally and other species often landed and released however most fishing is from the 7 and 8 metre long boats with 40 hp Suzuki outboards. They include life jackets and safety gear, gaffs, rod holders, seat padding, eskies, a small sun shade for the tropical sun and a driver/guide that know the ocean, atolls and fishing grounds like their back yard.
We also have GDS and fish finder combo.
Boat hire is AU$35 per hour plus any fuel used, this includes a driver/guide and standard fishing and snorkelling gear.
River fishing just discovered
Those who are interested in river fishing we have recently found some of the best untouched rivers in the world, they are full of Spot Tail Bass and Mangrove Jack. Recent guests have caught and released up to 20 fish per trip and are getting gear smashed off every trip.
PLEASE NOTE – it is cheaper to pre arrange your boat hire before departing. Also any lost fishing gear must be paid for, if you lose a lure you will be billed for it. We have a small selection available at Papatura.
