We are geared up to offer all types of fishing!
Bottom and reef fishing, trolling, popping and there's some great river fishing in the area.
At Papatura we have landed, sailfish, shark, sweet lip, coral trout and cod,marlin, job fish, king fish, Trevally, Wahoo, mackerel, barracuda, wrasse and some big snapper. The rivers boast huge Mangrove Jacks or Spot Tail Bass. Please come over and add to the list!
We do have standard gear available at the retreat free of charge however if you're a serious fisho bring some of your own gear. Solomon Islands is located in the "coral triangle" and contains some the highest marine biodiversity in the world.
The fishing grounds are located within easy access from the retreat, you will soon find yourself within one of the most spectacular locations in the Pacific. Within the lagoon there are small and large reef systems, atolls, islands, flats and bommies, as well as a host of other locations offering a wide range of sports fishing and spearfishing options. It’s here you’ll find tackle-crunching GTs and a huge variety of other species ready to rip your gear apart, this makes Papatura and surrounds one of the best locations in the South Pacific.
While the bay area of Papatura is a marine protected area. So no fishing on the resort side, you can fish from the kayaks on the other side of the bay.
We fish from the 7 or 8 metre long boats with 4 stoke 60hp Suzuki outboards or for larger 9 metre twin rig with 115 Suzuki 4 stokes.. They include life jackets and safety gear, gaffs, rod holders, seat padding, eskies and a driver/guide that know the ocean, atolls and fishing grounds like their back yard. All boats are set up different.
We also have Zoleo GPD tracking for those who wish to fish out wide.
Boat hire is AU$90 per hour and includes fuel, driver/guide, basic fishing and snorkeling gear. The larger twin rig is AU$180 per hour
Additional surcharges - Pasagari and Rakata can be fished at no extra charge
3 other rivers can be fished at an additional costs $150.00 P/P SBD. (approx $25 AUD)
This is a landowner fee and a small cost to maintain the walking tracks to the fishing holes.
FISHING DOYLES REEF (offshore) $150.00SBD PER BOAT .. MIN OF 2 BOATS or use our larger twin 115HP centre console and double the long boat hours and $300SBD surcharge. This is in addition to your boat hours used.
River Fishing is exceptional!
Those who are interested in river fishing some of the best untouched rivers in the world, they boast Spot Tail Bass, Trevally, Cod, Herring and Mangrove Jack plus loads more. Best suited for more experienced anglers.
PLEASE NOTE – it is cheaper to pre arrange your boat hire before departing. Also any lost fishing gear must be paid for, if you lose a lure you will be billed for it. We have a selection available at Papatura or ask us what to bring when booking.
We have a range of gear available to use free of charge - any lures are to be paid for in advance
Gear includes SW reel 8000 - 14000 Prn 750 -950s on Wilson Graphwrap rods 10 - 15 kgs or Ugly Sticks.
Lighter set ups are from 2500 - 6000 reels on various spin rods.
Bring your own lures - 2 and 6 metre+ diving lures, skirts and surface lures. Vibes, plastics and Squidtrex work well on the bottom along with metal jigs and blades. It all depends on your personal preference of fishing.
